Without a doubt, les Casetes del Garraf is one of the treasures of our region. A small beach slightly away from the hustle and bustle of Sitges and a few minutes from Caburéthat mixes the tranquility of the Mediterranean beaches with a tremendously picturesque setting.
Discovering the beach of Les Casetes del Garraf
Les Casetes del Garraf delight everyone who visits them. Its relatively small area (380 meters by approximately 28 meters of shore), together with the picturesque huts that decorate the back of the beach, make Les Casetes del Garraf a secluded and familiar environmentperfect to relax either on a summer day or taking a walk near the shore.
What makes this beach so special?
If something defines this beach are its white and green houses located on the beach with the Garraf massif in the background. Nestled between 2 coves and with little unevenness when entering the water, this fine sand beach is perfect for spending a day with the family or going on an excursion.
Services available in the Garraf Cassettes
This beach has practically everything. Public toilets, rescue and lifeguard station, 2 beach bars, rental of sun loungers, umbrellas and light boats such as water scooters or kayaks, etc.
In addition, les Casetes del Garraf is perfectly adapted for people with reduced mobility, offering an entrance ramp for those who use a wheelchair or walkers.
As if that were not enough, Las Casitas beach is very close to the marina, where we can find all kinds of services.
The history of Garraf and its famous Casetes
El Garraf was born as a small colony in 1901 that housed fishermen and quarry workers and port workers. These peculiar little houses began to appear, spontaneously, in the 20s of the previous century and were used by the locals to store both fishing utensils and protect themselves from the sun on very hot days.
Built with wood, the houses were hardly enduring the passage of time. In addition to the humidity typical of the beach, these curious little houses have resisted the Civil War, storms and the construction works of the Garraf tunnel.
Nowdays, the beach is made up of 33 of the original houses, which are now fully restored and guarded by the Platja de les Casetes del Garraf Neighborhood Association, which has been ensuring its perfect maintenance for decades.

A famous beach declared of National Interest
It is very likely that you have already seen this beach … even if you don’t know it. Les Casetes del Garraf have served as a set for all kinds of audiovisual works: photography sessions, advertising, films and series … even video clips (and if you don’t believe us, pay attention to this video clip)
Proof of their beauty is that on October 15, 2020 they are declared Cultural Asset of National Interest by the General Directorate of Cultural Heritage, which classifies them as a historical complex, ensuring a future free of construction or demolition on land in the area in favor of urbanization.
Visit the Garraf Booths
Although it is possible to visit the interior of the Garraf booths, accessing one does not seem like an easy mission. The association that guards them organizes, from time to time, some kind of visit. For more information we recommend contacting themhere.
An endangered beach
Unfortunately, the effects of climate change are increasingly visible anywhere in the world. This phenomenon especially punishes the coastal areas, where the winds and the sea threaten to devour the coast.
Without going any further, this March 2021 the beach suffered from a strong swell that completely flooded the beach, reaching the water to the door of the houses. It is in our power that future generations can enjoy an environment like this.
Where areles Casetas del Garraf and what to do in the area
As we have already mentioned, the beach of les Casetes del Garraf is located in the Garraf, a small population center belonging to Sitges and located very close to the C-31 road a few kilometers from the same municipality in the direction of Castelledefels / Barcelona.
How to get to Les Casetes del Garraf
Access to the beach by car
Due to its location, the car is one of the two recommended alternatives to visit this beach. We explain how to get there both from Barcelona and from any area of Garraf or Tarragona.
From Barcelona
The easiest way to get to the Casetes del Garraf from Barcelona is to take the Gran Vía de les Corts Catalanes towards Hospitalet and, once in Plaza España, take the indication ofthe C-32. Then, to the right, we will join the A-2 towards Lleida / Tarragona. Keeping straight we will find a detour towards the B-20 and C-32. We will take the latter to, just before the toll, take the detour towards C-31 / Avinguda de les Botiguetesde Sitges. After 5 minutes on this road we will find the access to the town on our left.
From Tarragona
From this area of the map, our objective is the C-32, being able to access it both from the coast via the AP-7 or from the interior via the C-15. At the height of Sitges, we must look for exit 31 (Aiguadolç-Port / Sitges Nord) and take the C-31. After a few minutes driving we will find the access to the Garraf.
Park in les Casetes del Garraf
The population is not particularly large, so parking can be difficult, especially in high season. If we don’t want to go early – and we don’t mind paying – we can make use of the 2 Garraf car parks, one of them at the port and the other at the entrance of the same town.
How to get to the beach by public transport:
Despite its small size, El Garraf has its own Cercanías Renfe station. In addition, it is very close to the beach, so it is ideal if we want to avoid problems with parking. To get there we just have to take an R2S and get off at the same station.
What else can I see in the Garraf?
In addition to Las Casitas beach, the Garraf has an exceptional guest: Gaudí. Shortly before the official birth of the Garraf village,Eusebio Güelldecided to build a hunting lodge and winery on the coasts of the area. This building was commissioned to Güell’s trusted architect, Gaudí himself, who in 1895 presented his project to the Sitges City Council.
After 6 years, the building would be finished, becomingone of the most relevant modernist pieces in the entire region. Today, converted into an exhibition space, we can explore the history of the space through a visit.
Apart from the architecture, the Garraf connects with the Garraf Natural Park, which we already talked about in our article about the Garraf Buddhist temple.
